Things That I Love (#3)

 


In part three of the "Things That I Love" series, we ponder the goodness of Little Debbie snacks. Can it be that a human has truly lived until he/she has savored the delectable Nutty Bar or partaken in the scrumptious Apple Flip? My personal all-time favorite is, of course, the staple Little Debbie treat: the Oatmeal Creme Pie. My newest fling/obsession, however, is the soft and airy Zebra Cake. They're ubiquitous; they're cheap; and, best of all, they're delicious. Little Debbie, you may just be an unknown lady wearing some ridiculous 19th century get-up that sells me the smallest of sweet delights, but you always bring a smile to my face - and for that, I salute you.

Booneville High School Soccer Crest

This has been a really fun project for me. Recently, I have begun to notice all the ways that my love for design has come into play (no pun intended) in the sports arena (again...no pun intended). I was summoned to create a soccer crest for Booneville High in Mississippi. I was told the school colors and given a logo of the mascot and it was off to work. Inspired by the tradition of European soccer crests, I set off on the project. The fun part for me was creating variations for different jerseys. Here's the whole set (collect all 5!) - a "hat trick" (okay...that pun was intended) of specimen:

Creative Scavenger Hunt

Earlier today I (along with a group of guys) finished my first creative scavenger hung - an exercise in creativity. The goal is to find examples within various areas of the arts of things that you think are quality/well-designed/beautiful. I quickly found that my opinion was hardly credible in most areas. Nonetheless, I thought I'd share my results with you...

The Sequence Shirt

If you'll remember, a few weeks ago, I designed the brochure for this event. Next, it was on to the Tshirt.

The commission was to create something that looked like what students were wearing these days (with their scraggly beards and hippy clothes and what-not). So, it was off to the drawing board (actually I don't have a drawing board...maybe I should get one!). Actually, it was off to the Internet, where I researched what was "hip" and "in" (because I obviously have no idea).

Here is what I came up with...I call it "The Sequence Shirt":

 

 

Things That I Love (#2)

There are many things that I love, but few as much as Memphis Tiger basketball. As a student at Memphis, it wasn't until my sophomore year that I realized that I could see one of the elite teams in America for free from a great seat. From that point on, I was hooked - I joined the student fan group (Blue Crew) and rarely missed a home game. My greatest Tiger memory would have to be being there in San Antonio to watch the '07-08 team in the Final Four (specifically watching CDR dunk all over Kevin Love).

In conclusion, through the good (beating UAB), the bad (losing to UMass), and the ugly (SMU!?), I will always love...

Boris & Natasha

I helped (and I use that term very loosely) take some engagement pictures for some friends recently. They had the brilliantly creative idea of dressing up as Boris & Natasha (yes, I'm talking about those pesky USSR spies/villains from Rocky and Bullwinkle). They retold their engagement story (taking some creative license, of course) through a series of pictures. I thought it might be fun to make a title slide for the series. Following the theme of a 1960's cartoon, here's what I came up with:
