Things That I Love (#2)

There are many things that I love, but few as much as Memphis Tiger basketball. As a student at Memphis, it wasn't until my sophomore year that I realized that I could see one of the elite teams in America for free from a great seat. From that point on, I was hooked - I joined the student fan group (Blue Crew) and rarely missed a home game. My greatest Tiger memory would have to be being there in San Antonio to watch the '07-08 team in the Final Four (specifically watching CDR dunk all over Kevin Love).

In conclusion, through the good (beating UAB), the bad (losing to UMass), and the ugly (SMU!?), I will always love...

Boris & Natasha

I helped (and I use that term very loosely) take some engagement pictures for some friends recently. They had the brilliantly creative idea of dressing up as Boris & Natasha (yes, I'm talking about those pesky USSR spies/villains from Rocky and Bullwinkle). They retold their engagement story (taking some creative license, of course) through a series of pictures. I thought it might be fun to make a title slide for the series. Following the theme of a 1960's cartoon, here's what I came up with:

Favorite Rejected Logos

As a freelance graphic designer, something you are always dealing with is rejected concepts. Many times, my personal favorite design is rejected in favor of another idea. Of course, that's the way it should be. Just because I like the look of something doesn't mean it fits the vision of the customer.

That being said, I hate to see these designs that I love die alone trapped on my hard drive, so I'm sharing my top 5 favorite rejected logos with you.

Things That I Love (#1)

You may be one of the millions that find themselves lying awake at night asking the question: "What does Drew Flippin enjoy?" This question is often followed by the subsequent: "Why doesn't Drew make an original design piece for the things he enjoys?"

If you've ever asked one or both (or neither) of those questions, then today's post is for you.

I love Izze - the carbonated fruit drink that comes in a can, but tastes best out of the glass bottle. Izze comes in a variety of flavors, but due to availability in our area, I've only tried seven (my favorite being Sparkling Pomegranate, followed closely by Sparkling Clementine). If you haven't already, try a refreshing Izze today (available at Starbuck's, Whole Foods (best variety), and Kroger...but only in the "organic" section!).

The Sequence Brochure

For the past month(-ish), I've been making a brochure to promote a DiscipleNow (weekend-long conference driven by small groups) for Swift Creek. The theme of the D-Now is "Sequence":

Parkside Student Ministry

Just finished a logo for the good folks at Parkside Baptist Church in beautiful Denison, Texas.

After talking with the Student Pastor over a ridiculously huge home-cooked meal in rural Texas, I began to catch the vision for the ministry, and therefore the design of the logo. The theme is "Deep & Wide." "Deep" in the Scriptures and "Wide" in their scope of caring for others and sharing their faith.

Here is where we have arrived:
